What is PTE?

The Pearson Test of English, or PTE, is a computer-based exam that evaluates your abilities in all aspects of using the English language. The PTE is entirely online, that means it can only be taken on a computer and not with pen and paper. It takes around two hours to complete this test. PTE assesses your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. If you give this test you will be needed to use multiple skills, like reading a passage and then summarizing it in a written format. This approach aims to reflect English language use in the real world.

The PTE is has gained recognition as a reliable indicator of English proficiency. This test is particularly appealing to some test-takers as it is entirely taken on a computer-based format and offers quick results. Considering that the test uses artificial intelligence for scoring, we can believe that there can be a potential reduction of bias. If plan to study in a country where the first language is English then the PTE could be a valuable way to demonstrate your language skills.

COVID Protocol- PTE Exam Centers

During the pandemic, the PLC Group, which administers the PTE exam, prioritized the health and safety of test-takers, staff members, and test center administrators. Following official regulations, the organizers, where necessary, limited the number of test-takers in each session to ensure the safety of both test-takers and test center administrators.

There are several COVID guidelines that a candidate must follow before the appointment at the test center, some of which are as follows:

  • If you are feeling unwell, have a fever, or facing respiratory issues you mustn’t attend the testing appointment and reschedule it.
  • If you believe you might be subject to travel restrictions, consult the official instructions from your government. You should do this before making travel arrangements or leaving for an exam.
  • If you don’t have a medical exemption, you might need to show proof that you have received all recommended vaccinations against COVID-19 in some places. Before your PTE test date, make sure you are aware of the vaccination requirements in your area to avoid being turned away from the testing facility.

Not only before your testing appointment certain guidelines must be followed on the day of your appointment.

  • A Candidate might be required to wear a mask during the test appointment.
  • When a candidate gets to the testing location, they need to wash their hands or use a hand sanitizer.
  • The candidate might be required to acknowledge that they have not been in contact with a person who has tested positive.
  • Some test centers might require you to get a body temperature check.

PTE Exam Preparation
